At Newrest we are offering an exciting opportunity for passionate chefs with an Oriental/Chinese specialism to join our growing team at Manchester.  If you thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment and take pride in creating high quality, authentic dishes, this role will give you the chance to showcase your skills on an international stage.

Working alongside experienced chefs, you’ll help deliver exceptional inflight dining experiences for global passengers while developing your creativity expanding your culinary expertise and being part of a supportive and energetic team.

Rate of Pay:     £16.85 per hour, plus flat rate overtime

Shift:               4 on 2 Off, rolling roster

Hours:             Various start times, you must be able to work all shifts on rotation

You must be flexible to work shifts as operations run seven days a week requirement (including evenings and public holidays), you will be required to extend shifts depending on operational requirements.

Please note that as this position is in the aviation industry your offer would be subject to security clearance – this requires a 5-year employment reference check. If you are invited to an interview, we would request that you bring a copy of your HMRC employment history.

We are looking for candidates that can commit to this role on a long-term basis, as such candidates must have the permanent, unrestricted right to work in the UK.

Perfil

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  1. Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, safety and presentation.
  2. Prepare and cook Oriental/Chinese dishes in line with designated recipes, specifications and production schedules.
  3. Maintain consistency in meal quality, portioning and presentation across all dishes.
  4. Assist with food preparation, plating, packing, and production activities within a fast-paced environment.
  5. Monitor stock levels, organise ingredients, and support ordering and stock rotation procedures.
  6. Ensure all food products are correctly labelled, dated, stored and handled in accordance with food safety standards.
  7. Keep workstations clean, organised and fully stocked before, during and after service.
  8. Support and guide junior kitchen staff, promoting teamwork and maintaining kitchen standards.
  9. Assist with training new employees on kitchen procedures, food hygiene and health and safety practices.
  10. Minimise food waste by following portion controls and supporting effective stock management.
  11. Work closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef to develop new dishes, menu ideas and presentation standards.
  12. Ensure compliance with all company policies, food hygiene regulations and health and safety requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in catering/ kitchen environment.
  • Understanding of Oriental/Chinese cooking and various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
  • Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions.
  • Familiar with industry’s best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a customer centred approach to service delivery.
  • Good team work skills.
  • Self-motivation, commitment and enthusiasm and the ability to work calmly under pressure.
