Missão

Roles and Responsibilities:  

  • Oversee overall operation of ice plant, spot check critical points and notify Facility Maintenance of any needed repairs 

  • Removing of loose ice and frozen bags from ice storage bins 

Training Requirements: 

  • Ice Plant operator will receive On the Job Training from a Senior operator 

  • Recurrent training throughout the year for Catering Operations policies 

Tools Needed: 

  • Rake/hook to level out ice bags in storage bins 

  • Step ladder to inspect ice conveyor belt 

  • Hose, mop and bucket for melting fallen ice from auger 

Procedures:  

Shift start-up 

  • Check previous operator shift report for any issues 

  • Check computer display to verify how many ice compressors are running 

  • Check ice surge bin to ensure there is ice in the hopper and that it is not frozen 

  • Check that the rake and carpet in the ice surge bin are operating smoothly 

  • Inspect the bagged ice storage bins. Look for how many bins are full and rake down any bags that are piled up under the drop zones 

  • Ensure Transportation agents are taking the older bags prior to dropping new ones 

  • Turn on the surge bin control panel 

  • Start the ice bagging machine (2 machines, only run 1 at a time).  

  • Run 3 bags through the ice bagger machine, then check that the stapler is sealing the bags properly 

  • Check the runner pads on the ice bagger machine, apply oil if needed 

 

Shift Duties 

  • Melt and clean up any dropped ice under the auger from the compressors to the surge bin 

  • Periodic check of ice bag storage bins to check levels and ice usage. Should also clear out any ice bags piled up against the photo eyes inside of the bagged ice storage bins 

  • Periodic check of the ice conveyor belt in Cooler 12 to clear any jammed ice bags 

  • Cleaning out of the ice bag storage bins of loose ice and/or ice bags frozen to the walls and floor (this is completed on a schedule compliant with Food Safety guidelines and in cooperation with the Facility custodial partner) 

 

End of Shift 

  • Check the window of the surge bin to ensure ice has been bagged and bin is empty 

  • Turn off surge bin control panel 

  • Turn off the ice bagger machine, ensure bagger drop cone is empty prior to turning the bagger machine off 

  • Fill out Ice Plant shift report (includes information such as how many bags of ice were produced, any mechanical issues experienced during the shift, were the mechanical issues resolved, etc).

  • Compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)/General manufacturing practices (GMP) guidelines for personal hygiene, and observe security precautions as mandated by unit management.

  • Satisfactory and punctual attendance is expected.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Must be able to count.
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures, including freezing temperatures
  • Be able to understand documents, 
  • Must be willing to work weekends.
  • Good knowledge of HACCP regulations.
  • Ability to work fast-paced environment
  • Ability to show flexibility in working in various areas of the department.
  • Ability to know how one’s performance affects the areas before and after you.

The noise level may range from moderate to loud.
